TRABZON’DA GÖREV YAPMAKTA OLAN COĞRAFYA ÖĞRETMENLERİNİN HİZMETİÇİ EĞİTİM FAALİYETLERİNİN YETERLİLİĞİ İLE İLGİLİ DÜŞÜNCELERİ – REFLECTIONS OF GEOGRAPHY TEACHERS CONCERNING SUFFICIENCY OF INSERVICE TRAINING

 ÖZ

Çalışmamın amacı, coğrafya öğretmenlerinin hangi düzeyde hizmet içi faaliyetlere katıldıklarını, bunların yeterliliğine ilişkin düşüncelerini ve genel olarak hizmet içi eğitim faaliyetleriyle ilgili düşüncelerini belirlemektir. Araştırmada survey (tarama) yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evreni Trabzon ili ve ilçelerinde görev yapan coğrafya öğretmenleridir. Örneklemi ise Trabzon İli merkez ve farklı ilçelerinde farklı ortaöğretim kurumlarında görev yapan 110 coğrafya öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan bir yapılandırılmış mülakat formu oluşturulmuştur. Bu formda öğretmenlere katıldıkları hizmet içi eğitim seminer veya kurslar, bunların yeterliği ve ne düzeyde ihtiyaçlarına cevap verdiklerine ilişkin sorular yer almaktadır. Açık uçlu sorulara verilen cevaplar ayrı ayrı incelenmiş, öğretmenlerden elde edilen görüşler ve bunlara ilişkin örnekler okuyucuya yansıtılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin çoğunun başta yeni öğretim programlarının tanıtımı ile ilgili seminerler olmak üzere hizmet içi seminerlere katıldıkları tespit edilmiştir. Ve yine öğretmenlerin katıldıkları hizmet içi eğitim faaliyetlerin faydalı olduğu, ancak seminerlerde yeterince uygulama yapılmaması başta olmak üzere birçok bakımdan eksikleri olduğu konusunda fikir birliğine vardıkları belirlenmiştir.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to explore the participation rate of the geography teachers in in-service activities, their reflections on the adequacy of these programs and the teachers’ attitudes towards in-service training. Survey method is used in this research. The sample consists of 110 geography teachers from different secondary schools in different districts of Trabzon, including the central district. A structured interview form with open-ended questions is developed as a data gathering device. In this form there are questions concerning in-service trainings, seminars and courses they attend to, effectiveness of these activities and how much the activities meet their needs. The answers to the open-ended questions are analyzed one by one, opinions of the participant teachers and their own experience regarding the issue are considered. The study shows that most of the teachers have already attended in-service seminars, particularly the ones about the new educational programs. According to this study, the attendants think that in-service seminars are helpful but there are many deficiencies about seminars, the most important of which is lack of practice.
