SİNOPE KENTİNDEN BOĞA BAŞLI GİRLAND BEZEMELİ MİMARİ BLOKLAR-ARCHITECTURAL BLOCKS WITH BULL-HEADED GARLAND DECORATION FROM ANCIENT SİNOPE

ÖZ

Söz konusu bu çalışmada Sinope antik kenti içerisinde tespit edilmiş olan boğa başlı girland bezemeli arşitrav ve friz blokları ayrıntılı bir şekilde tanıtılmış; stil kritiğin yanı sıra ait olabilecekleri yapılar ve tarihlendirme önerileri gibi konulara da yer verilmiştir. Friz ve arşitravın tek bir blok üzerinde beraber yer aldığı örneklerin yanı sıra her iki bölümün, ayrı bloklardan meydana geldiği bu mimari örneklerde girland kuşakları yaprak, haşhaş kapsülü ve meyve motiflerinin tümünün kurdelelerle sarılıp bağlanması ile oluşturulmuş; boğa başlarının tümü bukephalion şeklinde biçimlendirilmiştir. Kentte kesintisiz yerleşim ve devşirme kullanımı nedeniyle bu mimari elemanların ilk kullanım alanlarının tespiti oldukça zordur. Bununla birlikte, mevcut örneklerde gözlemlenen bezeme zenginliği ışığında, kentte dönemin popüler mimari bezemelerini bilerek uygulayabilen taş ustalarının çalıştığı yerel bir atölyenin var olduğunu söylemek mümkündür.

ABSTRACT

This study overviews the architrave and frieze blocks with bull-headed garland decoration used in Ancient Sinope. Apart from the style criterion, the study presents suggestions as to the identification of their structures and dating. In these samples, where the frieze and architrave were placed together on a single block, both sections were made up of separate blocks. Garland belts were formed by leaves, poppy capsules and fruit motifs were wrapped with ribbons and all of the bullheads were shaped as bukephalion. Due to the continuous settlement and reuse of the blocks, the first use of these architectural elements is very difficult to identify, but in the light of the richness of the decoration observed in these examples, it is possible to say that there is a remarkable local workshop in which the craftsmen worked and applied the popular architectural decorations of the period.
